Mountrail County approves $192.7 million preliminary 2026 budget, schedules Sept. 16 hearing

The Mountrail County Commissioners voted 5–0 Aug. 8 to approve a preliminary 2026 budget totaling $192,730,919 and to set the public budget hearing for Sept. 16 at 10:45 a.m.
Auditor Stephanie A. Pappa presented the budget documents to the board. “Moved by Commissioner John DeGroot, seconded by Commissioner Wayne Olson, to approve the preliminary budget for the 2026 year totaling $192,730,919 (the budget will be available on the county website under Auditor/budgets or in the Auditor’s Office),” the minutes record. The motion passed on a roll call vote with Commissioners Trudy Ruland, Jason Rice, Wayne Olson, Joan Hollekim and John DeGroot voting yes.
A separate motion to set the budget hearing was moved by Commissioner Joan Hollekim and seconded by Commissioner Jason Rice; that motion also passed unanimously. The minutes note the hearing will be held Sept. 16 at 10:45 a.m.; the auditor said the preliminary budget will be posted on the county website and available in the Auditor’s Office.
