On May 20 the Mountrail County Board of Commissioners approved a Joint Powers Agreement with Burke County to share an elected State's Attorney position effective Jan. 1, 2027. The motion to approve the agreement passed on a roll call vote in which all five commissioners voted yes.
State's Attorney Wade Enget briefed the board on the Joint Powers Agreement language and cautioned that Home Rule Charter options are governed by statute and county code, and may not be an immediate alternative. The motion directs staff to proceed with the signed agreement specifying the shared position beginning in 2027.
