Renville County declares Fire Emergency; burn restrictions and penalties set

Renville County adopted a Fire Emergency and Burn Restrictions resolution on April 24, 2025 after DES Coordinator Kristy Titus and local fire chiefs reviewed conditions. The declaration bans ignition of fireworks, campfires, pit burning, garbage or crop-residue burning under certain fire-danger ratings and prescribes that crop residue and slough burning may be allowed under 'High' danger only with a tilled firebreak, attendance until completion, and notification to Bottineau Dispatch.
The resolution states the penalty for violation is a class B misdemeanor under North Dakota Century Code 37.17.1-10.1 (maximum 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine) and authorizes the Renville County Sheriff's Department to issue citations. The policy remains in effect until rescinded or the danger conditions change as specified.
