Health department amends 2024 budget to accept multiple grant adjustments

The Vernon County Board on March 21 approved Resolution 2024-22, which amends the 2024 Health Department budget to reflect several revised or new funding sources. Health Department Director Amy Kleiber told the board these state-contract revisions and grant awards do not increase the county tax levy.
The amendments include: acceptance of $4,000 (with a $1,000 staff-time match) for a Department of Transportation car-seat grant to provide child safety seats to eligible families; WIC program adjustments including $1,350 for Farmers Market Nutrition Programing and $11,000 for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (additional to base salary allocations); a $25,000 medication-safety initiative funded by the county Opioid Steering Committee to purchase and distribute lock boxes; a one-year lead-testing grant providing $1,200 per licensed daycare to screen water samples; and an additional $2,000 for vaccine-promotion activities. Kleiber said staff will meet all grant requirements and compliance conditions. The resolution passed by voice vote.
