County seeks federal community-project funding to replace aging mobile command center

Emergency Management Director Brandon Larson told the Vernon County Board the county’s mobile command center—a 30-foot, custom-built RV from 2004—needs replacement due to age, parts availability and outdated technology.
The board adopted Resolution 2024-17 to authorize applying to Representative Van Orden and Senator Baldwin’s offices for up to $725,000 in Community Project Funding to buy a new mobile command center. Larson confirmed the grant is reimbursement-based and requires a 25% local match; he said the source of the match has not been identified and would likely be addressed in the 2025 or 2026 budget. "If the grant is received, will the County be obligated for a 25% match?" Supervisor Stanek asked; Larson answered that was correct and that selling the current unit could recoup some match funds. The resolution passed by voice vote.
