Sedgwick County staff on July 29 presented the countyrecommended 2027 operating budget, totaling $624,195,119 and supported by a proposed property tax levy of $217,672,598, "which is approximately equivalent to 26.842 mills," staff said. The board opened a public hearing to receive comment before final decisions during the budget-adoption process.
Chairman Blue Wah said the public hearing would allow citizens to comment before commissioners take further action. County staff recommended the hearing be opened, comments received and the hearing closed; the board approved that motion on a 5-0 roll-call vote. Commissioners said they expect weekly budget items between this meeting and final adoption so members and the public can continue discussing lines in the recommended budget.
