Principals from Foster Park and Monarch Elementary highlighted classroom practices supporting that growth; Monarch's principal noted that none of the kindergarten–2nd graders scored in the 'red' band on the end-of-year I-Ready assessment.
District priorities established from the data include: (1) strengthening Tier 1 core instruction (high-quality daily instruction, small-group work, explicit teaching), (2) building teacher capacity through coaches and professional learning communities, and (3) strengthening the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for targeted interventions. Principals described practical steps such as manipulatives, vertical planning, coaching cycles, and expanded after-school supports to reach students who need extra help.
Board members asked whether the I-Ready percentages correlate with state testing; staff said state data is still embargoed and will be shared when available.
