Town Manager Laura Roberts explained that adopting a reference to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Subdivision Street Design Guide in Articles 6 and 7 will allow the Town to remain aligned with VDOT updates without making repeated local ordinance amendments. The public hearing drew no comments and Councilmember Robin Dotson moved to adopt Ordinance #1, 2026; the roll-call vote was 5-0 in favor.
The ordinance updates local regulatory language to point to the VDOT guide as the controlling technical standard for subdivision street design in the Town's zoning and subdivision regulations. The action was procedural and intended to simplify future ordinance maintenance.
