Council approves Conditional Use Permit for parking lot on former Wise County Jail site

Town Manager Laura Roberts reported the Wise Town Planning Commission recommended approval of a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and a final site plan submitted by the Wise County Board of Supervisors for construction of a parking lot on the site of the former Wise County Jail in the B-3 Central Business District. Mayor Smith opened a public hearing and, with no public comments, the hearing was closed.
Councilmember S. Duane Phillips moved to adopt Resolution #5, 2026 approving the CUP and final site plan; Laura Taylor seconded and the motion passed by roll call vote of 5-0. No conditions were attached to the approval per the Planning Commission recommendation.
