Board approves DNR grants, handgun swap and ammunition purchase for sheriff’s office

The Board of Commissioners authorized the Sheriff’s Office to accept the 2024–25 DNR snowmobile grant and a 2024–25 DNR ORV grant of $45,000, both motions made by Commissioners and approved by consensus. The board also supported a motion permitting the sheriff to swap department .40-caliber handguns for 9 mm pistols and to offer existing .40-caliber weapons to employees for $250 each.
The board further approved using sheriff training funds to purchase approximately six years’ worth of 9 mm ammunition at a cost of $8,233.83. Commissioners also authorized the sheriff to apply for the FY23 State and Local Cyber Security Grant Program to support cybersecurity needs in the office.
