Board authorizes central dispatch equipment contracts and $1M project funding

The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners voted to authorize agreements with Tele-Rad, Central Square, Watson (furniture) and Equature to upgrade central dispatch equipment and furnishings. Commissioner Jeff Sieting moved the measure, which was supported by Commissioner David Comai and passed by consensus with no opposition.
The board also authorized Fund 516 to support the central dispatch projects up to $1,000,000. The motion specified repayment spread over four years starting in 2025, with planned payments of $250,000 in each of 2026, 2027 and 2028. County Administrator David Schaeffer noted the funding mechanism and the county attorney will review form language for the financing structure.
The agreements cover both hardware and central dispatch furniture to replace aging equipment. Commissioners said the upgrades are needed to maintain emergency communications and dispatch reliability; no formal votes against the measure were recorded.
