The Kalkaska County Finance Committee on Nov. 12 reached consensus on two fund transfers to pay Kaliseum renovation costs: unassigning $1,000,000 from Budget Stabilization fund 257 to Kaliseum fund 585, and transferring an estimated $620,000 from County Wide Improvement (CWI) fund 445 to the Kaliseum fund 585. The motions were presented by County Administrator David Schaeffer and recorded as consensus.
Committee discussion acknowledged an outstanding Kaliseum debt of roughly $2.6 million and questioned whether projected revenue increases will cover monthly interest and debt service. Sheriff Pat Whiteford urged the committee to delay any CWI expenditures until the CWI Committee meets on Dec. 10, 2024, to review the project list and fund balance and to confirm outstanding IT and jail project costs tied to CWI funds.
