Commission approves fee waiver for School District Foundation’s Jubilee of Trees

The Box Elder County Commission voted to approve a request from the Box Elder School District Foundation to waive facility fees for the Fine Arts Building for the Jubilee of Trees fundraiser scheduled Nov. 4–7.
Jamie Kent, executive director of the foundation, told commissioners that after fees the event raised $28,000 last year, all of which went to student health and wellness programs. Kent said the foundation plans to use some funds this year to support concerts and student transportation: "...it all went back to students," she said. Commissioners asked about cleanup and insurance; Kent said the foundation handles cleanup and carries insurance. The board approved the waiver with those conditions.
Commissioners also cautioned that repeated annual waivers were creating strain on fairgrounds operations and said the county plans to adopt a nonprofit fee next year to preserve fairgrounds resources. Kent said the event has grown and needs the fairgrounds’ space to accommodate increased participation.
