Warrensburg to expand traffic-signal automation; vendor touted public-safety preemption

Public Works Director Adlich told council the city is switching to a new cloud-based traffic signal automation vendor named AI and that three of the city's 16 signals are already on the new system. "AI offers preemption for public safety," Adlich said, and the vendor does not require recurring maintenance software costs according to staff.
Adlich said the FY27 budget allocation would fund bringing the remaining signals onto the system over the next two years and noted the software adds signal control and the ability for signals to notify staff if there are issues. Staff raised the possibility of coordination with county public-safety partners for preemption capabilities and monitoring.
Council will consider the FY27 allocation for the traffic signal automation expansion as part of the CIP discussion; no procurement votes were taken at the retreat.
