Residents press city for targeted curb repairs and quicker paving as water-main work continues

Residents filled the public-comment period to press the board to decide whether curb replacement should be complete or limited to problem areas as a water-main contractor works in their neighborhood. One resident said the disruption has altered neighborhood life — "Last Halloween, we had 780 trick or treaters up in that street" — and urged the board to prioritize repairs that will make newly paved streets last.

Acting city engineering staff (who said they were filling in for the regular project engineer) told the board the contractor quoted work that will include fixing subgrade failures, milling edges and placing a 2–3 inch top layer (the group discussed roughly a 5-inch total section in some areas). Staff and board members debated two procurement options: bid to replace all curbs identified up front, or bid the base water-main work and have contractors price specific curb replacements after a field review. Board members set a publicly noticed field inspection at Countryside for bidders and residents to attend and scheduled a decision for the August 11 meeting so that the chosen approach can be included in bid documents.
