New CHOICE program replaces DARE for Mason fifth graders

According to the minutes, CHOICE was developed because the DARE program was not available to the district this year. Officer Rollins consulted with the elementary principal, staff and counselors to design a program and identify topics for fifth-grade instruction. The minutes state: "CHOICE is an acronym which stands for Creating Habits Of Integrity, Character, and Excellence." The board did not formalize a budget or timeline for classroom implementation in the meeting minutes.
Board members acknowledged the need to provide programming in place of DARE; staff will follow up with details on scheduling and curricular materials as the program is implemented.
