The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education appointed Melissa Fortner to an open board seat at its Feb. 4, 2026 regular meeting.
Board members cast ranked votes (two points for first-place, one point for second-place); President Otting announced that Fortner received 11 points, the highest total. On a motion by board member Nehrig, supported by board member Grodi, the board approved the appointment by a roll-call vote that was unanimous (Waller — yes; Fowler — yes; Otting — yes; England — yes; Grodi — yes; Nehrig — yes). Fortner was not present to take the oath of office.
The appointment followed a short discussion in which trustees noted there were multiple qualified applicants. The board did not take further action at the meeting on seating or committee assignments for the new member. The next regularly scheduled meeting is March 4, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
