He reported last year’s MSW volume increased by roughly 71 tons versus the prior period and that the town’s recycling volume trends vary with economic activity.
Mellon said the town solicited three proposals (Casella, Statewide and One Waste) and that Casella seemed most likely to handle the facility’s size; he recommended awaiting the other quotes before making a final decision. Board members discussed how much of the budget increase the town’s revolving/recycling fund might offset and cautioned that higher contract costs would significantly affect the sanitation portion of the 2027 budget. No vote was taken; staff will present comparative quotes when available.
