Kalkaska County’s County Wide Improvement Committee voted Dec. 10 to remove a $15,530 parking-lot funding request from Springfield Township after officials said the township’s qualifying documents were submitted months after the program deadline. Sheriff Patrick Whiteford presented an updated CWIC funds breakdown and balance as of Nov. 5, 2024, and recommended that the late request be excluded so remaining funds can support ongoing county projects.
Whiteford also reported an $8,000 payment correction that should have been charged to the General IT account rather than CWIC. Committee members said the action preserves funds for higher-priority projects; County Clerk Deborah Hill noted concern that generators and security work — identified early in the program — could go unfunded if late or ineligible requests are honored. The committee took no public input and left broader governance questions about account #445 for later review.
