Zoning board chair asks for liaison, building‑inspector access and application copies; selectmen agree

Laura Gandia, chair of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, addressed the selectmen July 27 to request operational support and procedural clarity for her board.
Gandia said a selectman’s representative would provide a point of contact and a way to report zoning‑board concerns back to the selectmen without being a voting member. She also recommended that the building inspector attend zoning hearings or be available on request and asked that applicants be required to submit multiple paper copies (eight) of plan sets so the quasi‑judicial board can review criteria and case files efficiently. “I highly recommend that we amend our application to require that the applicant submit at least 8 paper copies to the board,” she said.
Selectmen agreed the liaison need not attend every meeting and the chair of the selectmen volunteered to serve as a point of contact; they also agreed to work with staff to ensure building‑inspector attendance on key hearings, update the application materials to show copy requirements, and provide the zoning board reasonable access to case files in the planning/mailroom area.
