O'Brien County compensation board recommends 4%–6% raises for elected officials

Rich Vander Werff, Chair of the O’Brien County Compensation Board, and Denise Steffen, the board’s vice chair, presented a recommended schedule of pay increases for Fiscal Year 2026. The recommendation would raise pay for County Supervisors, the County Attorney, County Auditor, Recorder and Treasurer by 4% each and increase the County Sheriff’s pay by 6%, with changes proposed to begin July 1, 2025.
The Board of Supervisors did not vote on or adopt the recommendation at the Jan. 7 meeting; the minutes state only that "The County Supervisors took no action on the recommendation at this time." No dollar amounts or projected budgetary impacts were included in the record. The recommendation was entered into the minutes for future consideration and potential inclusion in the county’s FY2026 budget process.
