Board honors two Hometown Heroes and reappoints Sharon Yates to IDA

County Administrator W. Kevin Massengill opened the Hometown Heroes recognition and the board honored Tressie B. Branch and Reverend Dr. Kevin M. Northam as the 2026 Dinwiddie County Hometown Heroes. Massengill described the program’s history and selection process and thanked attendees and past honorees.
In other business, Dr. Mark E. Moore moved and William D. Chavis seconded the reappointment of Sharon Yates to the Dinwiddie County Industrial Development Authority for a term ending March 16, 2030; the motion passed unanimously. Later in the citizen comment period Sharon Yates spoke from 16817 Courthouse Road to thank the board and county staff for their support of a historical marker unveiling honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and acknowledged Sheriff Adams and County Administrator Massengill for their roles in organizing a safe and meaningful event.
