Blackstone Area Bus System asks Dinwiddie to continue funding Dinwiddie Express

Alexandra Wilkinson, Transit Director for the Blackstone Area Bus System, asked the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors to continue funding the Dinwiddie Express route for fiscal year 2027, saying the service is “vital rather than merely convenient” for residents without personal transportation. Wilkinson told the board the agency is requesting a modest 5% increase in the local match to cover rising goods and operational costs.
Wilkinson reported that in fiscal year 2025 the Dinwiddie Express provided 3,268 trips, serving riders traveling to medical appointments, work and other essential services. She said the route will soon receive a new bus with updated Dinwiddie Express signage to improve visibility. Board members acknowledged the request during reports and will consider it as part of the FY27 budget process led by County Administrator W. Kevin Massengill.
