Culpeper officials link new marker to 150-plus years of local public education and upcoming school growth

David Lee said Anne Wingfield was "truly the founder of our public school system" and highlighted her 50 years in the classroom.
Dr. Anthony Bridal described the historical arc from Wingfield’s private classes in 1871 to the later brick school buildings and modern district, noting that Culpeper County Public Schools now serves more than 8,000 students and that Mountain Run Elementary School is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027. He said the dedication "celebrate[s] the beginning of public education in Culpeper and the people whose vision laid the foundation for generations of students."
