Council’s Water & Sewer Subcommittee reported an ongoing review of the borough’s fluoride application and storage practices. Councilmember Gattis said the committee is investigating the fluoride program in light of global supply chain issues and said current fluoride storage methods do not comply with modern permit standards, noting that upgrades would be significant. She committed to sharing additional information, including specific numbers and comparisons with peer communities, at a future meeting.
Carpenter asked whether the committee had reached out to other municipalities; Gattis said Lititz is one of very few Pennsylvania communities still using fluoride and that the committee would provide specific data in the future. Meck asked whether fluoride is used because of source water quality; Gattis responded it is added to promote dental health. The minutes record an investigation and commitment to further study rather than a decision to change treatment.
