County controller presented the Economic Development (EDC) cash balances and proposed reserving $25,000 to create a freshwater trail maintenance fund to cover kiosk installation and ongoing upkeep, and to ensure three $500 high‑school scholarships are preserved.
Controller said the economic development special project fund holds about $59,004.31 and the EDC revolving loan fund about $27,001.49, for a combined total of roughly $86,005.80. She reported approximately $17,500 is already promised (about $15,000 estimated for five kiosks at ~$3,000 each and $1,500 in scholarships). Her recommendation to set aside $25,000 would leave roughly $44,000 available for other EDC purposes.
Commissioners discussed oversight and administration — who would manage brochure printing, distribution and scholarship awards — and asked the controller to coordinate with chambers and finalize a process and timeline for awards. The board indicated support for reserving the amount and asked staff to return with a process for administering the fund.
