Several landowners spoke to the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors during the public hearing on Drainage District No. 62 and during a related item to raise concerns about the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline.
Julie Goebel, identified in the record as a landowner, requested a second ordinance and recommended working with attorney Paul Blackburn of Bold Nebraska. Neil Dahlquist, also identified as a landowner, expressed concerns about federal tax credits referenced as "45Q and 45Z," noted investor interest in Summit Carbon Solutions, and asked the Board to contact the Iowa Department of Natural Resources regarding potential effects on private water wells. Marte Elbert raised worries about water supply. Jamie Moser told the Board that Union Pacific Railroad can ship CO2 emissions by rail.
The Board recorded these public comments; no Board action on the pipeline was taken at that meeting. Speakers requested follow-up from the Board including engagement with state agencies and outside counsel suggestions.
