The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors on June 16 approved terms and directed staff to move forward with bidding a repair plan for Drainage District No.5 Lateral 1. Engineer Collin Klingbeil presented an engineer’s report that laid out five project alternatives; the board approved 20‑year waivers at 5% interest for the project (motion by Ron Graettinger, second by Keith Wirtz), and the motion carried with ayes from Faulstick, Merrill, Graettinger, Wirtz and Solberg.
Klingbeil told the board the district had held three informational meetings before the public hearing and that a majority of landowners favored option #3, which addresses repairs to both an 18‑inch and a 24‑inch tile. Objections were filed by landowners Jim Rothermich and Kirby Sampson; the board determined the objections did not meet remonstrance standards. The board then voted (motion by Roger Faulstick, second by Craig Merrill) to direct the engineer to prepare plans and specifications to bid option #3. Landowners will be notified of the bid letting date when it is set.
