Cass County Sheriff reports slight drop in 2025 calls, highlights meth seizure and fentanyl concerns

Sheriff Bryan Welk presented the Cass County Sheriff's Office 2025 annual report on Feb. 17, saying the office handled 18,926 calls for service and that detention center bookings and daily housing numbers trended downward. Welk reported the department "processed 48,326 calls from cellular phones with 1,585 calls from landlines," noted a rise in permit-to-carry applications, and said scam and fraud losses increased across age groups.
Welk also told the Board that narcotics enforcement led to the seizure of 12.5 pounds of methamphetamine and that fentanyl overdoses remain a concern even though Narcan deployments dropped from 39 to 12 year-over-year. He emphasized training goals for 2026, including enhanced training opportunities for 911 dispatchers. The Board received and filed the report.
