Commissioner Monty Piearcy told the board he had been asked by a property owner to release a county-owned easement across private property and stated that "this easement is not needed by the county." County Clerk Troy Cole reported that the county had purchased a 40-foot strip of property in May 1900, that the county sold the property in September 1975 but retained an easement pursuant to a deed filed Sept. 24, 1975 at Book 669, Page 587, and that the strip is not on a section line for County Road 76.
On a motion by Mark Sharpton, seconded by Floyd Coffman, the board approved Resolution #26-010 to release the easement. The vote was recorded Piearcy–ABSTAIN, Sharpton–AYE and Coffman–AYE. The resolution and deed citation were entered into the minutes; the transcript does not record a proposed replacement easement or ongoing use for the strip.
