Nobles County adopts 2025 budget and property tax levy, approves major departmental budgets

The Nobles County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 7 to adopt the countys 2025 budget and approve the 2025 property tax levy after a presentation by County Administrator Bruce Heitkamp. The Board passed Resolution 202459 adopting the county budget and Resolution 202460 adopting the property tax levy as presented.
The Board also approved separate departmental budgets by resolution. The Sheriffs Office budget was set at $6,301,022 under Resolution 202455; the vote on that resolution was 4-1, with Commissioner Justin Ahlers opposed. The Recorders budget was approved at $500,673 (Resolution 202456), the County Attorneys budget at $1,453,603 (Resolution 202457) and the Auditor-Treasurers budget at $1,096,242 (Resolution 202458).
Heitkamp presented the budget package to commissioners and noted the elected officials departmental budgets were set separately by resolution. The Board moved and approved the countywide budget and levy after roll-call motioning. The sheriffs departmental figure and the single dissenting vote were recorded in the minutes.
