Page County EDA moves to support Shenandoah Valley Foods meat processing facility

The Page County Economic Development Authority discussed on Feb. 23 plans to back a proposed meat processing facility by Shenandoah Valley Foods, with staff pursuing an Industrial Revitalization Fund grant that could provide $1 million to the EDA to support a loan, EDA Director Nina Fox reported. Fox said the Northern Shenandoah Valley Planning Commission is assisting with the grant application; the Department of Housing and Community Development would administer the grant if it is approved.
The EDA also addressed a billing issue tied to the project. Fox reported an invoice from Flora Pettit PC for $5,167.56, submitted for payment from a prior EDA allocation of $30,000 to the facility project, was a duplicate and had already been approved previously. Jonathan Comer moved to rescind his earlier motion to approve payment of the invoice; Leslie Currle seconded the rescission and the motion passed with a 4-to-0 vote in favor and Dennis Fleming and Bart Price recorded as abstaining. The authority reviewed next steps for the grant application and noted that any loan or financial support would be contingent on grant approval and follow-up due diligence.
