The Somerset County Commission on June 3 authorized payment of a three‑year inmate-management contract with Guardian Radio Frequency Identification for $57,012.67 (Res. 26‑102). The motion passed unanimously.
Sheriff Lancaster noted recent increases in calls for service, and county staff described the Guardian system as a way to provide electronic records of inmate counts and cell checks that reduce liability. "There were 478 calls for service last week and calls are on the rise as summer comes," Sheriff Lancaster said during the finance report. Administrator Tim Curtis added that the county received a discount by paying the three years up front. Commissioners directed the Sheriff's Office and county administration to implement the system and report back on rollout milestones.
