MDOT study prompts Commissioners to keep Lake Moxie Road speed at 45 MPH, add signs

Maine DOT Regional Traffic Engineer Tim Soucie told Somerset County Commissioners that a speed study on Lake Moxie Road identified a 25 MPH section near the intersection with Route 201 that is not recorded in DOT's database and a 30 MPH sign in a village area that is not legally enforceable. Soucie recommended installing a village-area warning sign and said he "doesn't see a reason to lower the speed limit from 45, but would be amenable to 40 MPH" if the Commissioners preferred.
Unorganized Territory Coordinator David Spencer said he would not agree to changing the posted speed limit because the Commission previously voted not to allow ATV use on the road. The Commissioners reached consensus to leave the limit at 45 MPH and to add several signs along the road to address the record and village signage issues.
