Commissioners accept MCCA coverage to satisfy sheriff's bond requirement

Somerset County Commissioners voted 4-0 on July 1 to accept the Maine County Commissioners Association (MCCA) Self-Funded Risk Management Pool's notice of coverage as sufficient to meet Title 30-A Section 285 requirements for the sheriff's bond. Administrator Tim Curtis said the MCCA certificate includes "a $100,000 Commercial Blanket Bond" intended to satisfy the statutory obligation.
District Attorney Meaghan Maloney met her obligation to notify the Commissioners of the need to review the bond and Commissioner Donald Skillings pressed for clarity on coverage limits, particularly whether wrongful-death litigation claims would be covered. Curtis told the panel he would bring back answers regarding coverage thresholds at a future meeting. Resolution 26-121 passed on a 4-0 vote, with Commissioner Scott Seekins moving the resolution and Commissioner Joel Stetkis seconding.
