Plan to de-organize Highland Plantation could shift about $110,000 in costs to Somerset County

Officials told commissioners the De-organization Committee submitted a de-organization plan for Highland Plantation to the State on April 11 and provided a copy to the county. The plan includes rough estimates of road and building costs currently borne by the plantation.
U/T Coordinator David Spencer said, "The costs transferred to the County would most likely be $110,000 for road maintenance and fire protection." The State Auditors Office, which oversees unorganized territories, will facilitate the process. The proposed effective date cited in the plan is June 30, 2029.
