Commissioners approve Food Sovereignty Ordinance for Unorganized Territory

Somerset County Commissioners on April 15 adopted a Food Sovereignty Ordinance for the county’s Unorganized Territory, voting 5-0 to approve Resolution 26-61.
Rockwood resident Leslie North spoke in favor during the public hearing, saying the ordinance would allow residents “the freedom to share fresh local foods and allow neighbors to be neighbors.” The draft had been reviewed at the prior meeting and mirrors ordinances already adopted by 14 Somerset municipalities; this action would extend similar authority to all 83 unorganized townships.
