Wilkes County authorized publication of notice for a negotiated offer to buy a tax-foreclosed parcel on Congo Road in Reddies River Township (Parcel ID 15-00525) after receiving a $2,500 offer from Monty Combs.
County Attorney Tony Triplett explained the property was acquired at tax foreclosure in 2014; the county’s out-of-pocket costs after release of past-due taxes total $3,296.14. Triplett said potential buyers must follow the statutory "negotiated offer, advertisement, and upset bid" process, including a 5% deposit and subsequent upset-bid procedures if higher offers are received. He noted "it appears that the tax value of the property is $18,000." Vice Chairman Evan Handy moved to publish notice of the offer and follow the statutory process; the motion passed unanimously. The county attorney will return to the board after the upset-bid period for final action.
