The Keansburg Board of Education recognized Victoria Petakova, described by a board member as a Miss Lavery 8th-grade student who won first place in the Monmouth County essay contest "What does patriotism mean to you?" The board said Petakova was honored by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners for her entry.
Victoria Petakova read her essay to the meeting, recounting her immigrant grandfather’s example of civic responsibility and describing patriotism as "the discipline, the respect, and the care I show the people around me." Board members and attendees applauded; a board member invited Victoria’s parents and offered copies of the poem through her teacher.
Board members also used the meeting to congratulate graduating students and noted upcoming graduations; one board speaker reminded the public that graduation for the class of 2026 will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Keanford High School.
