Mark Weaver and residents press hospital operator for financial transparency

Public commenter Mark Weaver told the Health Care Advisory Committee on July 23 that the hospital operator has not been sufficiently transparent about financial records and that the committee should insist on clearer reporting before approving large funding requests.
"We found quite a few discrepancies... they are withholding financials," Weaver said during the public-comment period, urging the panel to return to larger meeting spaces so the public can hold the operator accountable. Weaver said the only audited fiscal-year information produced was for 2024 and 2025 and that it was released late.
Committee Chair (speaker 1) thanked Weaver for his comments and confirmed the committee would continue to review lease-related reporting requirements at upcoming standing meetings. The chair also noted committee members had requested financial disclosures be included in a report card the committee reviews annually.
The exchange occurred during the meeting's public-comment block and preceded further discussion of hospital finances and capital projects later in the agenda; committee members asked staff to provide the three-year trailing-net-income figures and to bring clarifying materials to the October meeting.
