Commission tables $100,000 opioid-funds purchase after sheriff says vendor may provide equipment

The Somerset County Commission considered a resolution authorizing up to $100,000 from Opioid Settlement Funds to purchase drug detection equipment for the county jail (Resolution 26-31). Commissioner Scott Seekins moved the authorization, and Commissioner Joel Stetkis seconded.
Sheriff Lancaster told the board the issue had been identified at the jail but said he recently met with a nationwide vendor who may provide the equipment at no cost to the county, so he recommended tabling the resolution. Commissioner John Alsop moved to table the resolution and the motion carried 5-0. The item will be revisited if the vendor option does not materialize.
