County staff recommended contracting with Robert Lightbody of Maine Highlands Development to serve as Road Consultant for Somerset’s Unorganized Territory, at a proposed three-year term costing $52,000 per year. Lightbody introduced himself, stating he is an independent contractor specialized in earthwork, holds a civil engineering license and currently provides similar services to Franklin County. Commissioners Skillings and Stetkis noted that an engineer experienced with bidding and contracts would be advantageous.
The commission did not take a final contract vote at the Feb. 4 meeting; instead the consensus was to direct the County Administrator to prepare a three-year contract for formal approval at the next scheduled meeting. No formal resolution number for final contract approval was recorded in the minutes for this date.
