Somerset County approves final $50,000 Community Benefit payment to Humane Society

The Somerset County Commission unanimously approved a $50,000 final payment from Community Benefit Funds to the Somerset Humane Society (Resolution 26-30). Commissioner John Alsop moved the payment and Commissioner Joel Stetkis seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
Bonnie Brooks, director of the Somerset Humane Society, told commissioners the organization has hired an architectural firm to produce a concept design and cost estimate for a new facility, work expected to be completed within a couple of months. Brooks said four acres abutting the present site were donated and that the project’s projected cost is approximately $2.7 million, which the society plans to use as the basis for a capital campaign and grant planning.
