County Manager Thomas Weaver announced Dec. 2 that Cusseta-Chattahoochee County received formal notice of a $600,000 SEID grant to begin a trail project connecting from Fort Benning.
Weaver said the county must confirm interest before Dec. 4 so the grantor can move forward with project planning. He recommended the county select an engineer to begin preliminary planning and noted that federal and grant processes tend to be slow. Weaver said routing may change as project details emerge and that a sidewalk segment near the library could be bundled with the trail funding if the originally proposed routing is infeasible. He suggested the county select an engineering firm at the next meeting and named EMC Engineering as his recommendation.
Commissioners expressed support for moving the planning process ahead and asked staff to place engineer selection and scoring criteria on the next regular agenda.
