GFL raises trash rates; county to pass $2 increase to residents on January water bills

At the Oct. 27 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners that GFL raised residential trash rates by $2 and set an extra-container charge of $14 per month.
Weaver explained the company cited increased landfill tipping fees as the cause of the hike and said the county will pass the increase to residents on the January water bills, with the county absorbing the first-month cost. "Correct, the reason for the rate increase is due to the landfill tipping fees for them have doubled, however they are still the lowest and still in line with what everyone else is paying," Weaver said.
Chairman Coffey affirmed that the county would not continue to absorb the ongoing cost. No formal ordinance or vote was recorded on Oct. 27; staff said the change will appear on upcoming bills and will be communicated via TextMyGov, the county website and social media.
