County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed the commission at the June 23 work session on a range of operational and community items. Weaver said the county is reapplying for a sewer grant and a rails-to-trails walking-trail grant, describing both as having "a decent shot" at funding; he told the board Friendship Road bids should open in late July and that an award could be made by the August meeting depending on contractor availability.
Weaver updated the commission that Tank 1 at the water system was cleaned by US Tank on June 17 and that six service-line repairs were completed (two require additional parts); he also reported hiring a new animal-control officer who is being trained. On solid-waste policy, staff discussed recent confusion about C&D drop-off and charges; Weaver said residents with active water accounts may bring small amounts at no charge, while demolition or large-scale C&D will incur fees for residents and businesses. Commissioners suggested outreach to Goodwill or Salvation Army about clothing pickups to reduce pavilion cloth accumulation. Other work-session items scheduled for the July 1 meeting include appointment of Sheila Wilson to the Board of Assessors, a FLOST resolution, and a proclamation for long-serving library employee Pam Burgamy.
