County posts cemetery-ordinance draft and investigates reported damage to markers

Chairman Charles Coffey asked County Manager Tom Weaver to look into a citizen report of vandalism and possible maintenance damage to grave markers. The manager said staff will investigate whether public-works mowing or other causes accounted for the damage and report back to the commission.
Commissioners indicated the draft ordinance is being posted to solicit input and follow the county’s ordinance-adoption timeline. Because the item is at the 1st reading stage, commissioners did not make a final policy decision at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will post the ordinance draft, investigate the reported marker damage and present findings and the second reading to the commission per the 90‑day process.
