Work session proposes SPLOST and hotel/motel-funded projects at Riverbend Park and City Hall

During the July 28 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver outlined several tourism and SPLOST-eligible projects and urged the Commission to move forward while funds remain. Weaver said Hotel/Motel funds total about $813,251 and recommended renovating a City Hall room into a welcome center, building a fishing pier at Riverbend Park, creating campsites with power and septic hookups, and adding restroom facilities near an active basketball court.
"If we don't repair the room, it will continue to deteriorate," Weaver said, urging the Commission to obtain quotes and begin work. Chairman Charles Coffey and staff discussed prior planning packets and regional tourism outreach; staff will return with cost estimates and project scoping for Commission action.
