County outlines SPLOST and tourism projects including Riverbend Park dock and welcome center estimates

County Manager Tom Weaver told the commission on Aug. 5 that he will present project proposals that could be funded with SPLOST and tourism revenue, including a dock at Riverbend Park, restrooms at the King Street basketball court and a Welcome Center at City Hall. He said staff should be able to provide estimated costs at the next work session.
Weaver also reported he or staff had reached out to a dredging company to assess sand accumulation at the boat ramp and noted the Army Corps of Engineers can place communities on lengthy waiting lists; he suggested the county compare Corps scheduling to private-dredging costs. "We will look at the costs and see if it is something that is reasonably low it might be worth doing now," Weaver said.
At the Aug. 25 work session, Mordie Askew reported GLL Marine had inspected the ramp and staff were awaiting a price; Askew also discussed park amenities and a splash-pad leak. Commissioners directed staff to bring estimate comparisons for Riverbend and Liberty Hill road work and noted Fort Benning might assist with some paving work.
Next steps: Public-works and parks staff will prepare cost estimates and procurement scopes for the dock and other items for consideration at upcoming work sessions and regular meetings.
