County attorney drafts cemetery ordinance; staff clarify recordkeeping and enforcement roles

County Attorney Bin Minter told the Commission that he is preparing a draft cemetery ordinance for a new county cemetery that will be high-level rather than by-law driven. "Records will need to be kept; the county will not need a board, but will need to be the County Manager or the County Clerk that keep the records," Minter said. The draft will be returned to the Commission for review and potential adoption.
Separately, staff discussed the process for empowering a code enforcement officer: the Probate Judge must swear in the appointee for them to issue citations. County Manager Thomas Weaver said the role can hold two levels of authority—animal-control and code-enforcement—but the person can perform both only after appropriate swearing and designation. Commissioners placed the ordinance draft on a future agenda for further consideration.
